It’s been a while since my last entry. As you may have guessed, not much has happened since last time.
We did get a confirmation that the five children we wanted to adopt are ‘for sure’ placed with another family
I guess it’s good for them – and we’re happy for them. We won’t be making that mistake again, getting attached to some children before we should.
We went to a Philippines picnic put on by Crossroads Adoption Services this last Sunday (7/29). There were many families who have adopted children from the Philippines and some that are waiting. There were also two ICAB members (the ones who select the children for the families). We did talk to them a little. They seemed excited to find that we want to adopt an older sibling group and said we won’t have to wait very long to get a referral. Some families who want to adopt infants have to wait a year or so. It may only be a few months for us.
Our adoption counselor is back from vacation. We have an office visit with her tomorrow (8/1) and I think we owe the next big chunk of money to them. Then it’s another class on Thursday and Friday.

I checked our passport status today. Looking good!!! The State Department’s web site says that our passports are ‘in process’ which means……you guessed it……wait. Well, Brenda’s, Holly’s and my passports are in their system. Mitch’s still didn’t show up on their website. I’ll check on this later.
I’ve been working on a DVD for Mitch’s baseball team. It’s getting close to being done, but it is taking up a lot of time. I also need to get the final handle on the financing for our house addition to see what’s possible and what will have to wait. Can you say ‘creative accounting?’

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s amazing how quickly you can get attached to a child. We really thought those 5 children would be the ones we would adopt. Now, it’s hit us (me) rather hard that they’re going to another family. I know that because God is in control, everything will work out OK. Trust and obey.
We’ll likely not even look at any pictures of children until we are told by our adoption counselor that there’s nothing left to do because we’re approved and ready to be matched. It’s too hard on us to get attached, then wait – or to get attached and then not have it happen.
Isn’t it interesting? Attachment from us to the adopted children is a natural thing. The other direction is another story altogether.

Utter devastation for us, but good news for the children and another family.
We heard today that the 5 children we would have liked to adopt are going to a family in Missouri. We have no idea what to do now. We will DEFINITELY stop looking at pictures of children.
More later…. I’m in a Cisco QOS class now and will try to get my thoughts straight later.
